never be late November 28, 2008

Today was probably the most challenging day I’ve ever had in my life as a professional. Even though I’ve been involved in many difficult situations, today was the first time I felt powerless, funny enough, today was as well, one of my most successful and accomplishing days. With the help of my colleagues and some others, I was able to complete my task on a mission. Nonetheless other situations made today one day that I will never forget.

I just hope, yes… hope, that those who always find a way to truncate your success and your work with obstacles are sure and very confident that they do the things they do for the right reasons, because if not, someday they will find someone that will put the same obstacles in their paths, and they will have a taste of their own medicine.

In the end of the day, after today I will always remember… never be late; not one minute, not one second. In the business environment there is no such thing as “fashionably late, so make sure to always… always have your statement ready, and your watch 5 minutes ahead. Because it takes years and hard work to build up a professional reputation, and in a matter of seconds, everything could be completely lost.

My best to those who help me keep my head between my shoulders and my feet on the ground.

different voices November 12, 2008

Living in a professional environment definitely proves that this is just a freak show. Have you ever been in a position that you are only left thinking how can someone with this definitely lower level of knowledge or professional matureness is able to do what they are doing. Have you ever wondered if you just speak in different voices?, as if you are saying “up” and they understand “down”. The worst is that because no one is understanding or at least being condescending enough no middle ground can be reached and nothing can be sorted.

I, in my few years in a professional scenario, have been guilty of speaking different voices when talking to those I do not relate directly. And as time goes by, I am pretty sure that it can be sorted, just because I think I am one of those that will eventually give in, just hoping to get something done.

My advice is the following… everyone thinks their own job is the most important thing, and are not able to see the bigger picture. Make sure, though, that whenever you see yourself in the middle of a similar situation, take your time to explain your needs to those who are going to help you, and if you are the one helping, be humble enough to understand the wishes of that person you are helping.

And also, make sure to have your own babel fish installed in your ear! ;)
